Background sound

Beats need headphones: a different tone plays in each ear.

Which sound works best?

There is no single best sound. Try each for a few minutes and keep what feels good.

  • Pink and white noise: the best evidence so far. A 2024 review of 13 studies found a small attention boost in people with ADHD, but noise slightly hurt people without ADHD.
  • Brown noise: deeper and softer. Popular, but not studied yet.
  • Calm pulse: a gentle, slowly pulsing tone. Early research suggests rhythmic, steady music can help.
  • Binaural beats: two slightly different tones, one in each ear. Research results are mixed, so treat them as an experiment. Focus beats are 15 Hz, calm beats are 10 Hz. Stop if you feel dizzy or uncomfortable.
  • Avoid songs with words. Lyrics compete with reading and thinking.

Keep the volume low. Sound is a helper, not a treatment.

Tip: start with 10 minutes. Starting is the hardest part. Finished sessions today: 0
